The chromium element forms a dense and relatively strong self-healing chromium oxide protective film on the surface of the stainless steel, which effectively resists the erosion of various chemical substances that may be encountered during the processing of rubber and plastics, such as rubber vulcanizing agents, plastic additives, as well as humid air, acidic or alkaline substances in the processing environment. The nickel element endows the stainless steel with good toughness and ductility, enabling it to adapt to mechanical effects like vibrations and impacts generated during the operation of rubber and plastic machinery, and it is less prone to brittle fracture. Its microstructure is uniform and dense, with crystals arranged in an orderly manner. This structure helps improve the strength and anti-fatigue performance of the stainless steel, allowing it to maintain stable performance under the condition of long-term exposure to complex stresses.
    • Physical Property Indicators: It has excellent strength and hardness characteristics. The tensile strength is roughly between 550 and 650 MPa, and the yield strength is approximately 250 to 300 MPa. Such strength levels enable it to withstand the forces acting on key components such as screws and barrels in rubber and plastic machinery under high-temperature, high-pressure, and high-torque working conditions, ensuring that the components will not be easily deformed or damaged. The Rockwell hardness (HRC) ranges from 28 to 32, with a moderate hardness that is conducive to mechanical processing such as cutting, drilling, and milling to meet the manufacturing requirements of different components. At the same time, it can maintain good wear resistance during contact and friction with materials like rubber and plastics, reducing the decline in component precision and equipment failures caused by wear. Its coefficient of thermal expansion is relatively low, approximately 16 - 18 × 10 / °C. During the operation of rubber and plastic machinery, when temperature fluctuations occur due to friction heat or environmental temperature changes, it can effectively control the dimensional changes of components and maintain the precise fit between various components of the equipment to ensure its stable operation.
     
    1. Processing Performance
     
    • Cutting Processing Performance: It performs well in cutting processing. Due to its moderate hardness and stable organizational structure, by using appropriate tool materials (such as cemented carbide tools) and adopting optimized cutting parameters (the cutting speed is generally between 100 and 150 m/min, the feed rate is 0.1 - 0.2 mm/r, and the cutting depth is 0.5 - 2 mm), high-precision cutting processing can be achieved. For example, when processing shaft parts in rubber and plastic machinery, the surface roughness after processing can be controlled within Ra1.6 - 3.2 μm, and the dimensional accuracy can reach ±0.03 mm, meeting the strict precision processing requirements of the rubber and plastic industry for parts. Meanwhile, it has good chip-breaking performance. The chips generated during the cutting process have regular shapes and are easy to clean up, which can effectively avoid problems such as processing interruption and tool damage caused by chips winding around the tool, improving processing efficiency and quality.

In hot forming, after being heated to an appropriate temperature range of 950 - 1100 °C, its plasticity is further enhanced, and it can be used for forging, hot rolling and other processing to manufacture key load-bearing components of large rubber and plastic machinery, such as the large tie rods and screws in the clamping mechanism of injection molding machines. For example, when using argon arc welding to weld stainless steel PS8 sheets with a thickness of 4 mm, the welding current can be controlled between 100 and 130 A, the voltage is 12 - 16 V, and the welding speed is approximately 8 - 12 cm/min. The strength of the welded joint after welding can reach more than 95% of that of the base metal, and it has good corrosion resistance in the working environment of the rubber and plastic industry, ensuring the integrity and performance stability of the overall structure of rubber and plastic machinery and prolonging the service life of the equipment.
